About Pride in Care
The expertise behind safer, more affirming care for 2SLGBTQI+ older adults
Pride in Care is a Canadian consulting and training practice dedicated to one thing: helping seniors’ care organizations turn good intentions into practical, respectful, lasting change for 2SLGBTQI+ residents, clients, families, and staff.
We work with long-term care homes, retirement residences, home care agencies, hospices, and seniors’ service organizations across Canada — meeting teams where they are and equipping them with the language, tools, and confidence to care well.

Where this comes from
Built from lived experience and real care-setting work
Pride in Care began with a simple observation: seniors’ care organizations across Canada genuinely want to provide safe, respectful care to 2SLGBTQI+ older adults — but most teams have never been given the tools, language, or confidence to do it consistently.
Many 2SLGBTQI+ seniors lived through decades when being open could cost them their job, their home, or their family. By the time they enter a care setting, caution is a survival habit — and a single awkward intake, a wrong pronoun, or a silence in the dining room can send them quietly back into the closet. The cost is paid in loneliness, poorer health outcomes, and avoidable risk for the organizations that care for them.
Pride in Care exists to close that gap — not with lectures or guilt, but with practical training, clear policy, and steady consulting that helps care teams do the good work they already want to do, a little more confidently every day.
Our mission
Actionable, respectful, practical change in care environments
We help organizations move from uncertainty to confident, consistent practice — so that 2SLGBTQI+ older adults are safe being themselves, staff feel equipped rather than anxious, and leaders have a clear, defensible approach they can stand behind.
For residents & clients
Care where they can be themselves — names and pronouns respected, relationships honoured, safety built into everyday practice.
For staff & teams
Confidence and shared language to handle sensitive moments well, without fear of getting it wrong.
For leaders & organizations
Clear policy, defensible documentation, and a culture that holds up under accreditation, audits, and scrutiny.

Why this work is different
The intersection of 2SLGBTQI+ inclusion and seniors’ care
General diversity training rarely fits a care floor. Pride in Care lives where these two worlds meet — and that specificity is the difference between training that lands and training that gathers dust.
2SLGBTQI+ inclusion
Deep, current understanding of 2SLGBTQI+ identities, history, and the lived experience of older adults in this community — including Two-Spirit as a distinct identity, the realities of trans and non-binary residents, and the privacy concerns of intersex seniors.
Seniors’ care reality
Real understanding of how care settings actually run — shift handovers, PSW workflows, admission intake, incident documentation, accreditation, family dynamics, and the pressure of a short-staffed floor. Inclusion that ignores this never takes hold.
Most providers offer one or the other. Pride in Care brings both — so the guidance fits your residents and your roster, your policies and your people.
How we approach the work
The values behind every engagement
These aren’t slogans. They shape how training is designed, how consultations run, and how we talk to your team.
Respect over reproach
We meet people where they are. Care teams want to do right by residents — our job is to build confidence, not assign guilt.
Practical, not preachy
Every recommendation has to work on a Tuesday at 7 a.m. with a short-staffed floor. If it can’t be used tomorrow, we don’t teach it.
Confidential by default
Sensitive situations — incidents, complaints, internal conflict — are handled with discretion. What you share stays between us.
Grounded in Canadian standards
Our guidance aligns with Canadian human-rights law and provincial care legislation, so the work you do is both right and defensible.
Collaborative, not prescriptive
We don’t hand you a single “right way.” We help your team find strategies that fit your setting, your residents, and your people.
Plain language, always
Grade-8 clarity, no jargon, no shame. If a PSW, a nurse, and a director can’t all understand it, we rewrite it.

Meet the consultant
Martin Krajcik — practical expertise, grounded in care
Martin Krajcik (he/him) is a human-rights activist and educator with over two decades of experience advocating for the rights and well-being of 2SLGBTQI+ individuals. His work has always centred the people most often overlooked — and for years, that focus has been older adults.
As a co-founder of Senior Pride Network Canada, Martin has dedicated his career to queer aging issues through workshops, awareness-building, and advocacy for more inclusive policies. He understands both the history that shaped 2SLGBTQI+ seniors’ lives and the present-day realities of the settings that care for them.
Martin works alongside long-term care homes, retirement residences, and home care teams to create safer, more inclusive spaces for 2SLGBTQI+ residents, families, and staff. His approach is collaborative and supportive: rather than prescribing a single right way to respond, he helps people find practical strategies for intervening in challenging situations with confidence and care.
Together, teams build the safer, more welcoming spaces we all want — one thoughtful step at a time.

How we work
A practical, four-step working style
Practical, respectful, and always focused on outcomes that protect residents and organizations.
1. Listen first
A confidential discovery call to understand your setting, what’s happening, and what you actually need — no assumptions, no script.
2. Clarify scope
Together we name the real priority — a training gap, a policy gap, an incident, or a culture shift — and shape the work around it.
3. Tailor the work
Training, policy review, or consulting adapted to your organization’s size, budget, setting, and the people on your floor.
4. Build it to last
We leave you with shared language, written tools, and a rhythm (onboarding, refreshers, a named champion) so the change sticks.
