Onboarding Slide + Quiz

Add this to new-hire onboarding so the standard holds as the team changes. Keep it warm and practical, not a compliance lecture.

Slide — What you need to know

Every resident here gets respectful care from every team member. Use the name and pronouns the resident tells you. If you get it wrong, correct yourself briefly and move on. If you witness a homophobic or transphobic comment, respond calmly: "We don’t speak about people that way here." Never out a resident. When in doubt, ask the resident — they are your best guide.

Quiz (5 questions)

1. A resident tells you their name is different from the one on their chart. What do you do? (Use the name they gave you; note it in the care plan; tell the nurse.)

2. You use the wrong pronoun. What do you do? (Correct yourself briefly and move on.)

3. Another resident makes a homophobic comment. What do you do? (Respond calmly in the moment; check in with the person targeted; document and report.)

4. A resident asks you not to share that they are 2SLGBTQI+. What do you do? (Respect their wish; chart a privacy note; do not record the detail where others see it.)

5. Two-Spirit is… (a distinct identity held by some Indigenous people — not a synonym for LGBTQ.)
